About Becca Thomas

Architect Becca Thomas co-founded Glasgow and London-based New Practice to support communities in finding their voice to define briefs and shape their own built environment. In August, the practice was commissioned to animate The Sustainable Glasgow Landing on a vacant riverside site just outside the COP26 secure zone.

About Stephen O’Malley

Civil engineer Stephen O’Malley is a co-founder of Civic Engineers, a 150-strong practice of structural and civil engineers with four offices across the UK. The practice is currently delivering several climate-resilient public realm projects in Glasgow. These prioritise walking and cycling, including The Avenues in the city centre.

Show notes: Projects and resources mentioned in this episode

Located at 220 Broomielaw, The Sustainable Glasgow Landing is a fringe pop-up site animated by New Practice, which will host guest speakers, pechakuchas, a full-scale Passivhaus demonstration house, e-cycles and more throughout COP26.

Working with Hawkins\Brown, New Practice is leading the community engagement at Custom House Quay, a major regeneration project along the river Clyde which aims to better link the riverfront with the city centre.

Managed by New Practice and others, Many Studios is a former market building in Glasgow’s East End that has been transformed into a creative hub with workspaces and event spaces. ACAN will be based at Many Studios during COP26.
