AJ Climate Champions: RIBA Climate Special with Simon Allford

As COP26 in Glasgow approaches, Climate Champions puts the spotlight on the RIBA’s recently released Built for the Environment report, a global call for governments to harness the built environment’s role in tackling climate change. Allford talks about this, his ambitions for opening up 66 Portland Place and how his almost 500-strong practice, AHMM, delivers sustainable design.

Hattie Hartman also speaks with chair of the institute’s Sustainable Futures Group, Gary Clark, about the revisions to the 2030 Climate Challenge targets.

About Simon Allford

Simon Allford began his two-year term as RIBA president on September 1. He is executive director and head of design studio at AHMM, a practice he co-founded in 1989. Notable projects include White Collar Factory, the Angel Building and the University of Amsterdam. Majority holding of the practice transferred to an Employee Ownership Trust in 2017. He is a trustee of the London School of Architecture.

About Gary Clark

Gary Clark is a principal in HOK’s London office and the practice’s regional leader of science and technology. He has chaired the RIBA Sustainable Futures Group since October 2018 and is the lead author of the RIBA 2030 Climate Challenge. He is honorary professor of sustainable architecture at Queen’s University, Belfast.
